Harlingen und Terschelling

The weekend away with my company was awesome.
A lot of nice activities to get to know each other better and of course many fun parties with TOO MUCH alcohol.
As per being in the Netherlands of course there was some biking involved, and even though it was fun for some time, on Saturday night I couldn't believe that after the party I had to come back by bike to the boat..... but finally I found a partner in crime :P
While we were taking a beer with Marten and Mara, I mentioned the word taxi for the night, kind of a joke kind of a wish, and immediately I could see Mara' s eyes shining like the Sun, she told her boyfriend (my dutch coworker Marten) that we (not Dutch people, she is also an expat) are not meant to do such things and since we may be less cheap (please no offense) we definitely should arrange a taxi together and park the bikes for the rest of the day. I felt so happy of not being the only lazy one :):).

Anyway I recommend you all to get to know the Netherlands islands in the north, definitely a nice get a way of town!!

That was the state of the crew after Friday party... and notice the super cute dog on our boat, he liked to cuddle a lot!!!!

Herring Power!

So we made some new friends the other weekend at MariCarmen's Office Party Weekend. Mark is the guy in the middle and his girlfriend Kina is on the left. She is (was?) apparently a sushi freak, and loves raw fish. All over the Netherlands are these little fish stands you see in the background, where you can order "yummy" little fish snacks. Hollands Nieuwe is a traditional Dutch treat, and it is just a piece of raw Herring with pin-bones and all (Haring in Dutch) that you eat by tilting your head back and taking bites. Every fish stand in the country (as far as I can tell) has little posters with Smiling Dutch People(tm) enjoying their Hollands Nieuwe. We decided that we would have a little Herring to give us "power" for our upcoming bike ride around Terschelling Island (Mark assured us that "Haring gives you POWER" ;). MariCarmen wasn't up for eating the herring, but the other 3 of us had a piece and made a traditional picture, the advertising rights of which is now available for sale to the highest bidder. Enjoy!
